AB2147 Passes! Newsom expected to sign into law.
On the last day of California’s legislative session AB2147 was passed, giving inmates a clear pathway to making a living wage doing what they trained for years to do. Governor Newsom is expected to sign AB2147 into law shortly.
As firefighters work to contain massive and fast-burning wildfires without the help of inmate ground crews sick with coronavirus, lawmakers approved AB 2147. The measure will allow nonviolent offenders who volunteer for the firefighting crews to have their records expunged.
#AB2147 heads to the Governor. If we really want to bring about change and lower our recidivism rates, we have to ensure that those that have served their sentences have an opportunity for meaningful employment. Those that have served on the fire lines deserve a second chance. pic.twitter.com/det6dqpgg0

Tomorrow, Gavin Newsom will sign this into law, and end a small part of American slavery that is still with us in *checks calendar* 2020. https://t.co/gcijHNFCaR
