Subscriber First Name, As the smoke clears from the epic 2020 wildfire season, our hearts go out to those who suffered personal tragedies. FUSEE wish them all a speedy recovery from their grief and losses. To avoid future tragedies, we must take a clear-eyed, critical view of all the factors that contributed to urban wildfire disasters, including the influence of energy, land management, and rural development policies. From the ashes of the wildfires of 2020 comes new hope for change--a clear-eyed hope that is not mere wishful thinking, nor dreams of Great Leaders giving us change from the crown-down, but rather, an active hope that is based on courage and commitment to action from the roots-up. From this season where it is apparent that climate chaos and wildfire disasters are at a peak crisis stage, the kind of social, political, economic, and cultural changes we desperately need will only become realized through active hope that fuels hopeful actions. Let's draw inspiration from the green shoots rising up out of the gray ash, and redouble our commitment to shifting the paradigm of fire management. The future depends on it, and the future is now.
