The Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) directs forest management policies across 24 million acres on 17 national forests in Oregon, Washington, and California. Developed 30 years ago, the U.S. Forest Service is updating the NWFP and asking the public to express their views about how our public lands should be managed into the future. Powerful interests want to increase timber extraction and intensify fire exclusion, but this is not the 1990s anymore. Instead of turning the clock backward or defending obsolete forest and fire management policies, we need a forward-thinking plan that will be viable for the next century or more. The NWFP amendment offers the public a once-in-a-generation opportunity to advance big visions for bold actions that will further climate recovery, community safety and economic sustainability, fire resilience, old-growth and biodiversity preservation, and environmental justice for Indigenous communities. FUSEE and FireGeneration Collaborative are mobilizing our supporters to send in comment letters addressing the scope of analysis for the NWFP amendment. What are your ideas, values, visions?
